Republic High School seniors pose for a photo asking former
vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin to speak at their graduation.
Palin has agreed, and will speak at commencement June 1.
(Full-size photo)
Tyler Weyer and his fellow seniors at Republic High School began considering possible commencement speakers last fall.
Confronting
them was the reality that the most likely speaker would be a popular
teacher or a standout community member. Not that there’s anything wrong
with that.
But Weyer had a crazy thought. “I said, ‘Hey, let’s
just get Sarah Palin,’ ” said Weyer, the 17-year-old senior class
president at Republic High.
It was kind of a joke, at least at
first. But soon Weyer had taken the lead on an aggressive social media
campaign that … just got Sarah Palin. The former Republican vice
presidential candidate and Alaska governor will be addressing Weyer and
his 26 fellow graduates June 1.
It might be the hottest ticket – ever – at the RHS gym.
Weyer
is a lifelong Republic resident who plans to attend Wenatchee Valley
Community College next fall and transfer to Washington State University
to study political science. He’s a longtime fan of Palin’s – referring
to her, partly in jest, as his “idol” – for her political views and for
her representation for small-town life and outdoor recreation.
“I
really like how the governor is able to relate to the common, everyday
American,” he said. “She loves to hunt, she loves to fish – and that’s
what our class is like, too.”
RHS principal Shawn Anderson said
Weyer has been an enthusiastic and outspoken fan of Palin’s for a few
years. A young man with a strong interest in politics and government,
“Tyler … and Sarah Palin kind of went hand in hand,” Anderson said.
When
Weyer threw out the notion of inviting Palin last fall, he was
encouraged by his teachers and Anderson. Why not give it a shot?
Weyer
typed an invitation, Anderson had it put on school letterhead and
signed it, and it went off to Palin’s parents. Weyer had tried to reach
Palin through official sources in the past, with no success, and so he
thought going through her parents might work better – and they were
listed in the phone book. Soon thereafter, Weyer received an e-mail
response from “one of her people” that was noncommittal.
“To be
honest, I really wasn’t surprised that the message got to Sarah,”
Anderson said. “I really believed she would at least see the letter and
maybe some of the e-mails.
“But I didn’t think our chances were so high.”
Months
passed with no further word. In early April, still awaiting an answer
and running out of time, Weyer decided to push things along.
“I got impatient, so I organized a class picture,” he said.
He
got his classmates together in their class sweatshirts, and they made a
banner: “We Want You! Governor Palin!” School librarian Kelly Scriver
took the photo of them posing with the banner, and they posted it on
Facebook.
And then – in what is becoming a familiar pattern in the
age of social media – the sharing and the liking and the tweeting
began. As word of the Class of ‘13’s efforts spread, people began
lobbying Palin directly, via Facebook and other ways. Weyer said that
Palin has some relatives living in the Republic area, which might have
helped bring their efforts some attention, and Palin herself was born
not far away in Sandpoint, where her parents have a long history.
Whatever it was, something finally broke through. As Weyer put it, “the right word got to the right people.”
He received another e-mail, wanting to know: “Can we just get the date and time again?”
“That was definitely more promising,” he said.
Then came another e-mail from Palin’s people – this time to set up a phone call with him and school officials.
“People
told me I looked pale as a sheet when I got that e-mail,” Weyer said.
“I said, ‘Oh my goodness. I’m getting pretty excited. Something’s going
to happen here.’”
On April 18, Weyer and school officials had the
phone call with Palin’s representative, and learned that Palin would be
coming to graduation.
“It was worth a million dollars to see the look on (Weyer’s) face,” Anderson said.
Anderson’s priority is to preserve the event as a commencement ceremony – something focused on the students and their families.
“This isn’t going to be a circus and this isn’t going to be a political statement,” he said.
Weyer says that Palin’s representatives have expressed similar wishes. “She doesn’t want a frenzy,” he said.
Still, certain frenzy-like elements are bound to accompany the
appearance of a figure like Palin. Each graduate gets 20 tickets to
distribute for the 1 p.m. commencement ceremony on June 1, and then
admission to the small gym will be first-come, first-served. There’s
room for around 700 people; Anderson expects he’ll be turning people
away.
Weyer said the event is the talk of the 1,000-resident town.
“Everyone’s asking for tickets,” he said. “Everyone’s very ecstatic.”

"Well Known Liberal Journalist; Everyone Knows That Pregnancy (Palin's) Was Faked";Journalism At Its Nadir

Posted on 4:52 PM by Unknown
The fact that a blog site for conspiracy minded neurotics exists to propound the ludicrous belief that Sarah Palin is not the birth mother of her son Trig is not all that unusual.

There are of course various such sites serving the mentally disturbed across the political spectrum from "9/11 was an inside job" to various UFO conspiracies.

What is surprising, is to read that apparently mainstream media journalists share the Trig delusion. That Andrew Sullivan is a noted "Trig Truther is neither here nor there as Sullivan, whilst having a following, is considered on the fringes of the MSM, he is also considered by many, on the left and right, as being a flake.

However a premier "Trig Truther" site "Political Gates" makes the distrubing claim HERE that a mainstream journalist holds to their bizarre cult theory as follows from this extract:

"Sarah Palin's "pregnancy" with Trig: Revealing email exchanges with two liberal journalists

"I recently had email exchanges with two very well know liberal journalists about Sarah Palin's "pregnancy" with Trig. You all know these two journalists. I won't reveal their names or give any hints, and please do not start to guess in the comments. It is not the first time that I posted quotes from email conversations with a journalist about the pregnancy, without revealing the identity of the journalist.

The identities of these two journalists, who both are prominent and have a national audience, is not important, but the content of their messages is incredibly revealing indeed.
"Journalist No 2:"

Everybody knows that pregnancy was faked.

That Salon story was RIDICULOUS.

Haha - I had to take a deep breath after I received this email!

"Journalist No 2" of course referred to the infamous "definite debunker", written by Justin Elliott, which appeared at "Salon" in 2011.

I then asked the journalist to clarify who "everybody" is.

"Journalist No 2" answered:"

Everyone *I know* knows that baby is not Palin's."

If, like so much of the anti-Palin derangement is a statement of fact, i.e. that a "prominent journalist with a national audience not only holds to the belief that Palin "faked her pregnancy"  and even worse that "everyone I know" holds to that belief then the public really needs to know who this person is.

If a supposed major journalist is so demented as to hold to an obviously mad theory then the public needs protection from his or her views being propounded in supposedly reputable forums.

For the reputation of the journalist profession a genuinely reputable and sane professional should expose this colleague and shine a light on the cockroaches who propagate such asinine and dangerous concepts.

BUCKEYE, Ariz. - The traveling Vietnam Wall Memorial is on display in Buckeye. It's a smaller version of the permanent Vietnam War Wall in Washington, but still features all the names of the service members who were killed or listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War. "So I honor them I thank them, I love them, I'm proud to be the mother of a vet and there are no words to express the appreciation so many Americans feel for the United States military," said Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor, who made an appearance at the memorial. The wall is on display through Sunday at the Earl Edgar Recreational Facility in Buckeye.

Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will speak Thursday evening at a ceremony in Buckeye, where a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be through Sunday.
“Please join me and brave Vietnam veterans as we remember those fallen heroes who gave the last full measure of devotion to our country,” Palin wrote in a Facebook posting this week.
The Buckeye Main Street Coalition and Buckeye worked to bring in the traveling exhibit, which is four-fifths the size of the actual memorial wall and contains every name etched onto the original. The names reflect those Americans killed in Vietnam.
The wall is at the Earl Edgar Recreation Facility, 500 S. First St.
The wall opened to the public at noon Thursday with the laying of POW/MIA and Gold Star wreaths and a blessing of the wall. The evening ceremony begins at 6.
Another ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, and a candlelight vigil will be held at that time Saturday.
On Sunday, a church service begins at 10 a.m., with the ride of honor at noon and closing ceremonies at 2 p.m.

Dramatic Polling Evidence Proves Palin Twice Gave McCain Huge Poll Boost

Posted on 3:02 PM by Unknown

The now long demolished myth that Sarah Palin cost John McCain the 2008 election still hangs around in the Palin hating dead-enders basement blogging. More sensible people have had the following Gallup data, which proves conclusively that Palin invigorated McCain's moribund campaign, put to them so often that the meme has all but dissipated. Matt K. Lewis at the Daily Caller (link http://tiny.cc/u3buww  ) dealt with the leftist bias, especially from Washington Post's Chris Cillizza, in a hard hitting article.

In clear point of fact, the McCain/Palin team were in the lead right up to the financial collapse and McCain's "suspension"  of his campaign. Nothing Palin could do could reverse those disasters, but for the record here are the details of the massive change Palin made to the teams dynamic/polling.

"Gallup polls from the last presidential race prove that once Palin joined the ticket on Aug. 29, 2008, McCain’s ratings steadily climbed to a point where the Republican ticket even outshone Democratic Sen. Barack Obama.
In the two weeks before Palin joined the McCain ticket, the Arizona senator drifted in the low 40 percentile range, mostly around 41, 42 and 43 percent, while Obama held as much as an 8 point lead at about 49 and 50 percent. Four days after Palin joined the ticket, however, McCain’s numbers climbed to 45 percent and Obama’s sank to 47 percent, narrowing the gap significantly from eight points to two.

Between Sept. 4-6, McCain and Palin actually overshot the Obama ticket by 3 percent with the Republicans in the lead at 48 percent and the Democrats at only 45. McCain consistently held that lead until Sept. 15, and then the candidates balanced out with Obama enjoying a mere three-point lead, and no lead at all from Sept. 22-24, when the numbers were tied at 46 percent."

What is little commented on, but in some ways even more remarkable, is that Palin managed the almost superhuman feat of once again lifting McCain in the polls-this time when McCain had fallen 9 points behind Obama/Biden.

Under massive attack from the leftist media and under astonishing pressure when 70 million people tuned in to see her debate the vastly experienced Joe Biden. Palin, as she did at the GOP's convention, turned in an outstanding performance. The entire leftist media contingent was waiting for Palin to fall flat and for the McCain campaign to be done and dusted. Instead Palin turned in a polished performance which even the media had to, grudgingly, say, "exceeded expectations".

"By the standards of those Americans conditioned by late-night comics to think of Palin as an inarticulate idiot incapable of putting coherent sentences together or understanding basic policy questions, she succeeded enormously. She had a solid 90 minutes of rapid, confident discourse and kept herself from being the story of the night (as well as the constant punch line of the election season). Improved her image and partially turned the page on McCain's bad two weeks, enabling the Republican-ticket team to try to regain some footing in a contest that has been steadily slipping away "

A dramatic piece of evidence, taken in conjunction with the polls taken after Palin's vice-presidential nominee acceptance speech, allied to post election exit polling has built a remarkable portrait of Palin as the key factor in what polling success the McCain campaign enjoyed.

A CBS poll taken just after the vice-presidential debate found that Obama's lead fell from 9 points before the debate to only 3 amongst likely voters subsequent to it. Palin also lifted her personal approval rating by a huge 8 points to tie Biden

The full report is HERE (which I have never presented or saw before) and reproduced below is the key summary of the poll which proves indisputably, when allied to the Gallup polling, that Palin provided a very positive contribution to the Republican ticket. In retrospect it is hard to imagine McCain having done anywhere near as well as he did if Palin had not been the vice-presidential nominee. This is further proven by the post election exit polling, reproduced below, which showed that Palin was a positive factor in peoples choice of the GOP ticket

    "CBS Poll: Presidential Race Tightens
In a sign that the race for president has returned to about where it was before the first presidential debate, the Obama-Biden ticket leads the McCain-Palin ticket 47 percent to 43 percent among registered voters in a new CBS News poll.

The Obama-Biden ticket led by a wider margin, nine percentage points, in a CBS News pollreleased last Wednesday, before Joe Biden and Sarah Palin faced off in the vice presidential debate. Obama-Biden led by five percentage points on Sept. 25.

In the new poll, the Democratic ticket leads by 3 percentage points, 48 percent to 45 percent, among likely voters.
Both Biden and Palin appear to have benefited from their performance in the vice presidential debate. Both now have 40 percent approval ratings - an increase of six points for Biden and eight points for Palin from their pre-debate approval ratings."

Here is the exit polling report:

    http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1023/exit-poll-analysis-2008

PEW RESEARCH CENTER FOR THE PEOPLE & THE PRESS November 5, 2008

Yet those who cited Palin's selection as a factor in their vote -- 60% of all voters -- favored McCain by 56% to 43%.
