Sarah Palin's Stated Positions On Drug Use/Legalization/Marijuana

With the Republican nomination for the presidency in 2016 an open field at this stage and with the possibility that Sarah Palin may choose to run it is important to remove the leftist myths and legends, distortions and calumnies and consider her approach to social/moral issues. It is these issues which have been the subject of perhaps the most gross media/leftist distortion which Palin being categorized as a far right ultra-conservative.

The reality is that in many aspects, as would be fitting for a resident of a common sense, hard working citizens state, Palin's positions are a mix of the most sensible Christian conservatism, community, especially youth welfare concern, and a live and let live libertarianism

Here are some of Sarah Palin's reported positions on the contentious issues relating to "hard" drug use, marijuana, and drug law enforcement. I note especially the concept of  "at home" marijuana use possibly not being a criminal offence-much like tobacco smoking in due course. 

Speaking personally I am now leaning towards the Milton Friedman view on drug laws and note the result of liberalization in Portugal  which has emphasis on rehabilitation where drug crime related offences has dropped markedly as has, perhaps the most significantly, youth usage.

Palin is opposed to efforts to decriminalize or legalize marijuana, which she says sends the wrong message to children.^[66] Palin does not support full legalization of medical cannabis but said, "I’m not going to get in the way of a doctor prescribing something that he or she believes will help a cancer patient."^[67] Palin has admitted to using marijuana, though at a time when doing so was legal under state law. Palin has also said she is more concerned about methamphetamine, which she sees as a greater social threat.^[68]

During her June 12, 2010, appearance on Freedom Watch, Palin elaborated on her stance that even though marijuana should not be legalized, enforcement of marijuana prohibition laws should be made a lower priority: "Well, if we’re talking about pot, I’m not for the legalization of pot because I think that that would just encourage, especially, our young people to think that it was O.K. to go ahead and use it. And I’m not an advocate for that. However, I think that we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts. And if somebody’s gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody else any harm, then perhaps there are other things that our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems that we have in society that are appropriate for law enforcement to do and not concentrate on such a, relatively speaking, minimal problem that we have in the country."^[69]

On an April 13, 2012, appearance on Stossel, Palin explained that she disagreed with host John Stossel on the subject of drug legalization but reiterated her belief that the government should better prioritize drug laws: "You take even more of a stronger libertarian view than I do on some of those issues, like the War on Drugs. I happen to believe that we need to continue to do all that we can to discourage drug use, especially with our youth. I would like to see, though, law enforcement prioritize its time and resources and not go out and bust a guy in his house, maybe smoking a joint, who's not doing anybody else any harm, and, in the meantime, go out and find the bad guys and you know, try to help keep society safe that way. Just prioritize; use common sense."^[70]

Israel, Sarah Palin, JFK and the Wisdom of Rabbi Gamaliel

Sarah Palin's support for Israel is unquestioned, abiding and deep. It is a core aspect of her world view-world including its outer and internal aspects.

Outer in that her foreign policy decisions as President would, where applicable, always take into consideration the affect those decisions would have on Israel-that nations security being paramount.

Inner, because her Christianity (which includes family) is her core being. Even her most strident critics, who view everything Palin through a prism of conceit and deceit, would admit her Christian faith to be real.

In point of view they would only admit of its validity to either ridicule it or to attack the pro-Israel aspects-such is the topsy-turvy world of liberal thought where the "other" is subject to personal attacks of the basest kind. Their method is condescension and ridicule with an elitist sneer worthy of 1950's Britain's ruling class, but without the acerbic wit.

Her religion is only one of a number of structured attacks on Palin, there are so many going on at once it is hard to keep track of them all.They included her supposedly being a hypocrite for travelling when campaigning in a private jet, being a bad mother for taking her children on tour-and for not taking them on tour. She is dumb, she is too clever by half and etc. None of this rubbish sticks anymore as it has no substance, but they keep throwing them out there in the hope that some might catch on.

Her support of Israel and the possible reason for it (apart from it being the right thing to do for the sake of common humanity) through the connection with Pentecostal Christianity is another matter. It is weighty and deserves analysis. The controversy arose because Palin, when questioned on her foreign policy views by Barbara Walters, voiced support for Israel's right to build more settlements. "I believe Jewish settlements should be allowed to grow...I don't think the Obama administration has any right to tell Israel that the settlements cannot expand"

The second aspect of her answer, which appears to be related directly with her religious views and how they relate to Israel, Palin said "More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead".

This has been interpreted, with validity I believe, as relating to the Pentecostal "last days" belief. This generally holds that before the return of Christ ,in the last days, the Jews shall be gathered in the holy land. This will happen in a time of violent war (i.e. invasion) in Israel which will be ended by Christ with a portion of the surviving Jews (Zechariah 13 8/9) recognizing Jesus as the Messiah in fulfilment of biblical prophecy and ushering in the rule of Christ over Israel and all the nations.

Who is to say, as presented previously that our, these times are not the commencement of the fulfilment of this prophecy as militants now posses missiles?

Israel has historically been a grain of sand of freedom and democracy surrounded by a sea of repressive dictatorships. It is a legitimate creation of the United Nations which, Israel, was at its inception supported by the left and the far left.Truman and Stalin raced to be the first to recognize the new country diplomatically. It is of course perfectly legitimate to criticize Israel when it is wrong, but not legitimate to strive to seek to remove it from existence.

What is also not valid is to criticise Palin's support of Israel, and her concept of an in-gathering from a party political point of view. These are religious matters which the supposedly tolerant left should leave alone, and let religious minded people debate the finer points of doctrine amongst themselves.

It is ridiculous to hold, even for one second, that Palin could not separate her support for the legitimacy and security of Israel as a political entity from her support of Israel in biblical prophesy. Kissinger and Albright managed to keep faith and heritage apart from their politics.Why then should Palin be any less capable than JFK was to keep his belief in the Pope separate from his constitutional oath of office?

For those who attack Palins religious beliefs regarding Israel from a liberal i.e. leftist Jewish standpoint, let the, amongst the wisest and most liberal of Jewish heroes, Rabbi Gamaliel, have the last word. Gamaliel was described in Acts chapter 7 vs.28 as "an expert on religious law and very popular with the people" and in the Talmud (a commentary on the bible) "it was said of him that when he died righteousness perished from the earth". He was the grandson of Rabbi Hillel, perhaps the originator of the Golden Rule, and possibly a teacher of St.Paul.

When Peter and the other apostles were brought before the religious authorities Gamaliel said (Acts 7 Vs 38/39) "If what they have planned and done is of human origin it will disappear. But if it comes from God you cannot possibly defeat them".

This indisputable judgement should be the touchstone for all attitudes to Palin's religious beliefs towards Israel-if these beliefs happen then it is God's will. If they don't, then what is the harm to anyone? Judge a President  Palin rather on her oath to the constitution and her defending America's security at home and abroad against real threats from those who would destroy our values.

Thanksgiving 2012

Here’s a picture of almost everyone in the Heath/Palin clan taken on Thanksgiving Day. It was so nice to finally get everyone together and it was an especially meaningful day because Track had just arrived safely from Afghanistan a couple of days beforehand.

Getting us all together seems to be harder and harder to do lately. Between the kids hockey and basketball games, book signings, hunting/fishing trips, Bristol and Sarah’s hectic schedules, military duties, college, Todd training for Iron Dog, etc… it’s a wonder we are ever able to assemble the whole crew.

My house was packed with family and friends. Everyone pitched in to cook their specialties. Mom made a delicious ham, Sarah baked cookies and made a couple of potato/cheese/moose-bacon casseroles, Heather made the salads and sweet potatoes, Molly baked the rolls, my mother-in-law Jean baked many pies, I prepared a dry turkey, and Dad made a mess. My father-in-law, Mark, said a wonderful prayer and we all dug in. (Lots of other people contributed, too!)

Most of the guys spent the day downstairs watching the football games. We even kept the Jets/Pats game on for the duration because we assumed Tebow would get a chance at QB after the score became so lopsided. Come on, Ryan! What have you got to lose now? Give him a chance!

My daughter celebrated her first birthday party, too. She had a blast tearing into her first cake and everyone was roaring with laughter as she smeared it all over her face.

Overall, it was a great day and we enjoyed the respite from all of the distractions in our lives. We’ve got many challenges ahead of us this year… I guess we’ll start dealing with those on Monday.

The modern Democratic Party has no claim on Andrew Jackson or Thomas Jefferson-it being a mockery of the beliefs of both great men to have an annual "Jefferson-Jackson Day"  for the Democratic Party. Rather the Republican party should expand the name of their annual Lincoln Day get together and call their annual event the "Jefferson-Jackson-Lincoln Day".


When the Democrats were the slaveholders party and subsequently the Jim Crow segregation party the Republicans commenced their endeavours in their first election of 1856 under the banner "Free soil free men Fremont" (Fremont being their first candidate). This program was put into action by the Great Emancipator Lincoln and the Republicans were the repository of the votes and trust of the black population.


Thomas Jefferson was a great defender of states rights- herewith an example, one of many;


"I see,... and with the deepest affliction, the rapid strides with which the federal branch of our government is advancing towards the usurpation of all the rights reserved to the States, and the consolidation in itself of all powers, foreign and domestic; and that, too, by constructions which, if legitimate, leave no limits to their power... It is but too evident that the three ruling branches of [the Federal government] are in combination to strip their colleagues, the State authorities, of the powers reserved by them, and to exercise themselves all functions foreign and domestic." --Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1825. So to Andrew Jackson;

One of Palin's lasts acts as Governor of Alaska  was to sign a joint resolution declaring Alaska's sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution – and now 36 other states have introduced similar resolutions as part of a growing resistance to the federal government. 

"Be it resolved that the Alaska State Legislature hereby claims sovereignty for the state under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States." 



"Be it further resolved that this resolution serves as Notice and Demand to the federal government to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers. "



About Jackson's connection with the common man his biographer noted that the "instinctive preferences of the people must be right" and that the "truly helpful men and women of this Republic have oftenest sprung from the cabin.... and worked their way up to their rightful places as leaders of the people, by the strength of their own arm, brain, and resolution".

Not that the intellectual elite easily overcame their natural prejudices against the great mass of supporters of Jackson, the plain folks who gave him such overwhelming electoral victories.

These same prejudices are operating today from the new elite-the ivory tower academics, the liberal main stream media and entrenched financial interests on the radical liberal left. They are doing all they can to negate the legitimate heir of Lincoln, Jefferson and Jackson-Sarah Palin, by a constant barrage of vilification and ridicule to which no politician has been submitted in living memory. 

They are doing this for the same reason that they did the same to Jackson.They were afraid of the radical transformation of American society that giving power to the ambassador of the wishes of the masses would bring and afraid of losing their elite position in society, they are afraid of losing their positions of influence at their academic outposts and, like the entrenched elites in The Bank in Jackson's day, they are afraid of losing their power in the commercial world.

That one woman can stand up to the immense power of the forces arrayed against her is astounding. However, as with Jackson, the reality is that she is not alone. Rather she has the power and the voice of millions behind her against which nothing can prevail. Even if the powers succeed in bringing her down, in the long run the ideas and ideals she represents will ultimately prevail.

Leftists Just Don't Get it;"Palin For President 2016" Doesn't Necessarily Mean Palin For President 2016, Rather, Palin-ism In The Presidency 2016

Subsequent to the Los Angeles Times major article proposing Sarah Palin as "the Cure" for the GOP and it's suggestion that Palin may be an ideal candidate for 2016
there have been howls of derision from the left.

That is to be expected in Los Angeles of course, the unexpected however was the article itself. Amongst the huge number of leftist criticisms was a recurring theme that has been running for two years now. It has numerous variants, but in sum if runs along these lines "Palin is an egotist/She will drag out the "will she won't she" run game for four years whilst getting suckers to send her money" and suchlike.

Leaving aside that the decision to run for president is a momentous one, not only for a candidate but for their family.
As Palin knows, probably more than anyone. A merciless and unfair blowtorch is immediately focused on the candidate and anyone associated with them. Thus if Palin takes a long time to come to a decision, only a poltroon would condemn her for that.

The arrogance of the left is such that they consider that anyone who supports Sarahpac financially is a dumb sucker.
Obviously Palin supporters are well aware she may not run when they send money to Sarahpac. They do know that the money will go towards supporting candidates for office that Palin approves of. They also know it will not go towards "supporting Palin's extravagant lifestyle" and other such childish leftist idiocies.

Those who support Palin obviously would like her to run, but we obviously know that she may not.When we support her, in the media, or financially, or on the ground when her chosen candidates run we are supporting Palin-ism. Obviously we would like to see Palin-ism put in to effect by Palin herself, but if that is not to be, then seeing it effected by people she supports will also do. For us it is money and time well spent.

The leftist cynics can simply go to hell.

This site is not absolutely about Sarah Palin regardless of the Blog title. Of course I, and I am sure a massive number of others, judging by her Facebook followers being over 3 million, would wish her to run in 2016.

But Palin is only one person, and a person with massive family commitments, especially with Trig of course. It may be that she has developed a taste for the freedom from financial constraints and from media criticism worries, and is happy to enjoy the rest of her life in comfort and ease.

If so, good for her. Surely nobody else in public life has endured the slings and arrows of outrageous leftism over the last four years and would be entitled to such a respite as her skills and endurance has gained for her.

There are of course many options for public involvement open to her. She will be in demand as public speaker for some time yet as an historic figure at least.

The currently Dem. held Alaskan senate seat is up for election in 2016, and of course she can continue endorsing and campaigning for candidates she considers it important to do so. Her influence as an endorser is undiminished as e.g Ted Cruz in Texas will testify.

But even if none of these options appeal to her (which I doubt) this blog would change from Palin4President2016 to "Palinism In The Presidency 2016". No matter how great or influential and correct a person's political, social and economic  ideas and ideals are, they will outlive their originator if they have lasting value.

The "common sense conservatism" policies that Sarah Palin espouses and exemplifies, are lasting if not timeless and will be her legacy no matter what her personal future holds. An outline of  what she, and this site stands for are

As The Media Puffs Up Rubio,Other Leftists Pronounce Him "The Next Uncle Tom"

All sorts of mixed signals regarding the early shining knight for the GOP 2016. Voices on the conservative right attack Rubio as "just another RINO" and soft on immigration. Others attack him for running down Mitt Romney as soon as the election was over.

Beltway media guru's crown him as the front/probable runner, if not the de facto candidate in 2016, including the establishment left as represented by The New York Times .

The "progressive left" as represented by the likes of "Daily Kos" & "Wonkette" have gone straight into Rubio attack mode, but the really interesting attack (the hagiographies and Establishment paeans are so obvious as to be embarrassing)  has come from one Brent Cohrs. 

Cohrs somehow manages to tie in Sarah Palin in his article on the GOP and Hispanics ("GOP Election Loss may Force Sarah Palin to Pander to Emigrants From Hispania"). It seems almost a compulsion for leftists to do so, no matter how tenuous, or non-existent the connection is.

 It was rewarding to see so many attacks on Cohrs in the comments section to the point where, battered and bruised, he had to back down and advise using Palin was "just satire". No it wasn't, his idiotic attacks were run of the mill distorted, and often untrue and certainly ignorant of the facts left-speak.

Even the hoary "Palin thought Africa was a country" idiocy was trotted out. The definitely said by President Obama that "They speak Austrian" and "all 57 states" comments are passed over of course. As for Biden's multitudinous embarrassments "stand up" he famously commanded a wheelchair bound person is just one of myriads.

But what was new was the attack on Marco Rubio as in effect the same sort of "token' that McCain supposedly created  to attract women voters by choosing Sarah Palin. 

Cohrs advises that Rubio is not only an non-effective choice because "Cubans are the 1% of Hispanics" a gross insult of course, but that by choosing Rubio the GOP would be, in effect, choosing not only a token but an Uncle Tom. "he has never shared their struggles (other Hispanics) and will be seen as an Uncle Tom". A more insulting sentence to the Cuban community whose struggles are well documented, is hard to imagine.

What we are seeing is the utter condescension by the left towards anyone, Black or Hispanic, who chooses to leave, or not join the party of dependency welfare-ism, unemployment and food stamps. Certainly the GOP needs to address its relations with the Hispanic community (in all its constituent parts) but it will do so in a non-prescriptive, non-arrogant, manner. 

Someone like Sarah Palin, whose own children and husband have a minority heritage and whose family epitomises the hand up working class ethic is actually, the right person to dialogue with (not pander to, or worse, as the Dem's do, be paternalistic too) the Hispanic community.
