Well, well, well. Look who's the Number One Pundit
Well, so much for Howard Kurtz and his made-up fiction that when Sarah Palin's contract with Fox News came up for renewal, Roger Ailes made "a lowball offer" that was only "a fraction of her seven-figure salary." About the only thing that Kurtz got right was both parties did in fact amicably agree to go their separate ways. The fantasy that Fox made its star pundit an offer than she had to refuse has become the latest meme among those who remain in denial about the relevance of the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate.
The reasons we're so sure Kurtz was just blowing smoke out of his... er, pipe can be found in the numbers supporting Mediaite's Power Grid:
Ron Devito, New York State Coordinator of AGU Grizzlies, explains the numbers:
Just think about it. Sarah Palin remains the number one pundit, and she hasn't even made an appearance on television in well over two months. Mr. Kurtz, put that in your pipe... and smoke it.

The reasons we're so sure Kurtz was just blowing smoke out of his... er, pipe can be found in the numbers supporting Mediaite's Power Grid:
Ron Devito, New York State Coordinator of AGU Grizzlies, explains the numbers:
Reviewing the rankings in the graphic, Gov. Palin has had 1,303 appearances or mentions on TV in some for other during the past seven days as compiled by TVEyes. Gov. Palin has an astonishing 30,300,000 web searches, was mentioned in the news 47,800 times, and has been blogged about 19,800,000 times. She has 885,924 Twitter followers. Facebook is not accounted for in the Grid, however, Gov. Palin has 3,517,586 likes on her Facebook page as this story goes to press and 85,172 are talking about her Facebook Page.Sarah Palin is so far out in front of the number two pundit on the list that it's not even close. Who might that be? It's Karl Rove, who does have a Fox News contract. From strictly a ratings standpoint, it makes no sense to make a "lowball" contract offer to the number one Power Pundit in television, especially when her numbers dwarf your network's other two heavy hitters, Karl Rove and Charles Krauthammer. It's not good for ratings, which means that it's not good for business. This is what the late Andrew Breitbart called "a self-evident truth," and the logic of it flies in the face of Howard Kurtz and those who regurgitate his meme.
Just think about it. Sarah Palin remains the number one pundit, and she hasn't even made an appearance on television in well over two months. Mr. Kurtz, put that in your pipe... and smoke it.
